How It Works
First, we use your legal rights to get your Credit Report. Then the good stuff starts.
We believe that Australians should have the ability to access their Credit Reports online for free, and instantly, as happens in the UK and in the USA. Unfortunately, under Australian law, the agencies charge consumers dearly for 'quick access', and even then, the service is far from instant. If you opt for the free route, Australian credit reference agencies can take up to 10 business days to send this to you, and when you get it, despite their best efforts, it's not an easy read, there are no helpful graphics and no Credit Scores or Credit Ratings.
We've used our experience of providing over two million consumers Worldwide with online Credit Reports to work within the Australian legal framework to provide a service that helps consumers to get their Credit Reports, to understand them and to store them securely online.
1. You sign up for the free 30-day trial
It's a really easy online process, but remember, it's even easier to cancel. You agree to our terms, and authorise us to obtain your Credit Report from Equifax.
2. We order your Credit Report on your behalf
We use the legal rights route, which means that Equifax has 10 business days to send your Credit Report to you, and because you have a right to FREE access, this keeps the cost of our service down significantly.
There's no point in getting your Credit Report any quicker, as the credit reference agencies don't keep information in real time.
3. You get your Credit Report sent to you
You have the opportunity to see a statutory Credit Report for yourself. Don't worry if it seems complex or confusing – it's our job to make it easier for you to understand. We'll email you to make sure you've got it on time, and if not, we'll chase Equifax on your behalf.
4. You send it in to us for analysis
You can post it to us, free, or fax it to us, or email it. We don't mind. Whatever suits you best. Either fax it to us on 03 8648 5964, scan and email it to us at customer.care@checkmyfile.com.au or send it by post to us at Checkmyfile, PO Box 161, Erskineville, NSW 2043.
5. We reformat the report
We reformat your paper Credit Report into an online one that is much easier to read and which will now benefit from interactive help and explanations. We've got over a decade of experience of doing this.
We only serve consumers, never credit providers or other businesses, so we have a good appreciation of how to help you to understand your Credit Report.
6. We calculate your Credit Score and Credit Rating
Checkmyfile was the first company in the World to provide consumers with access to their Credit Scores. Until then, credit scoring was in a black box, shrouded in mystery. The scorecard we use is a very powerful one.
It's range of 0 to 1000, where the higher the Credit Score, the better, has now been copied by other credit reporting agencies. We use the information in your Credit Report to work out your Credit Score, and then use that Credit Score to highlight to you those lenders who are likely to say yes to your future applications.
7. We put your Credit Report online
It's important to keep your Credit Report securely and by putting it online, it is as secure as it can get - much more secure than in paper format, in a forgotten drawer or attic. We use a tried and tested format which makes it easier for you to see what matters, to check for errors, to look for possible signs of identity fraud.

8. We invite you to view your Credit Report online
We'll email you to let you know once we've done all this.
Usually it takes us one business day to put your Credit Report online once we've got it.
9. We repeat the process every three months
You don't have to do a thing, it's all done automatically.
All you need to do is to send your Credit Report to us when it reaches you.

10. You can cancel at any time you like
Just email us or log in and send us a Secure Message and we'll write back to confirm that we have cancelled your subscription. We won't try to 'save' your subscription, we know that you'll have your reasons, and we'll hope that when you're next in need of professional help with your Credit Report, you'll think of checkmyfile first.
